In this role, you will contribute to impactful projects, collaborate with leading experts, and support the development of innovative solutions for the maritime sector.

Maritime Risk Group (MRG) stands as an innovative academic research group that has been operating for over a decade under the esteemed guidance of Professor Nikolaos Ventikos at the prestigious School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. Our research endeavours encompass a wide spectrum of fields including maritime safety and security, risk analysis, life cycle analysis, sustainability, environmental protection, green shipping, port operations and offshore activities, alternative fuels and renewable energy systems, air emissions, autonomous ships, human factors, cyber security, and more. Comprised of passionate researchers and scholars, our diverse team is deeply committed to making a positive impact on a global scale by tackling complex challenges, advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration and partnerships with other research groups, industry partners, and governmental agencies, and making meaningful contributions to our global community. Your role
As a core member of MRG, you will:
- Conduct and oversee research work.
- Collect, analyze and interpret data using statistical or computational methods, to draw insightful conclusions.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to gather pertinent knowledge and insights.
- Collaborate closely with other research teams and well-known industry stakeholders to share resources, exchange ideas, leverage expertise and contribute to the overall success of the research projects.
- Communicate and present clearly and effectively research findings, progress updates, and recommendations to team members, project managers and external collaborators.
- Document research methodologies and results in reports, papers, or presentations for internal and external use.
- Manage research projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to objectives.
- Identify research tenders and funding opportunities, prepare research proposals, and submit relevant applications.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in the field through continual self-study, training and professional development activities.
Required qualifications
- Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
- Registration with the Technical Chamber of Greece.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English.
- Prior work experience in EU-funded or national research projects is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and follow senior faculty instructions.
- Adaptability to fast-paced environments and a willingness to learn and embrace new methodologies and technologies.
- Availability for frequent international travel.
- Strong work ethic.
- Self-motivated, hardworking and proactive.
- Focused and willing to succeed.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, etc., and familiarity with AI/ML applications is advantageous.
