About the role
To strengthen our challenging Commercial Ship Operations team, we are seeking a qualified Operator who will be responsible for operating abt. 7-9 vessels of our growing head owned and time charter fleet. The role could possibly extend to leadership at operational level depending on career development and own ambitions.
We emphasize teamwork and collective efforts as the most effective way to develop our company towards operations excellence.
Monitors the performance of each vessel in the designated Fleet based on flag, statutory and Company’s requirements and guidelines. Below, there are some main responsibilities regarding the position.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Providing pre-fixing insight to the chartering team.
- Issuing TC/Voyage orders to vessels / Reviewing TC/Voyage orders received from 3rd parties charterers for own vessels.
- Communicates to master’s Voyage instructions, port requirements, local regulations, cargo requirements and precautions, ship’s charter party description and applicable clauses.
- Checking evaluation and final approval of pre-stowage plans, loading sequences, passage plans, cargo docs, LOIs.
- Appoints cargo, bunker surveyors and arranges various services that the ship requires. Updates position list checks with agent the ship’s prospects.
- Monitors the daily vessels performance at sea with regards to speed, consumption, and weather conditions with the support of weather routing company and selection of optimum route/speed.
- Bunkers review with bunkers’ desk.
- Planning the appropriate date and time of vessels’ arrival at loading and discharging
ports for tendering valid NOR.
- Monitors the actual financial expenditure of vessels in the fleet (supervising the loading/discharging operations).
- Liaises with the Insurance Department in handling of claims, hazardous situations, accidents, and P & I involvement and notifies Insurance Dept in case of vessel breaking International Navigation Limits and war zones.
- Commenting on final D/A prior to settlement).
- Approves hire statements or freight invoices, conducting lay-time calculations, and assists chartering with cargo quantity / stowage calculations and comments on c/p clauses during negotiation.
- Evaluation of commercial disputes/proposals. Presentation of possible solutions considering all details (i.e., facts, CP position, relationship).
- Drafting proposals, reviewing with the ops team, and discussing with the chartering team in order to improve efficiency and maximize results.
- Will have support from Agency, Marine, Accounting department and Receivables Desk
Candidate requirements
- University Degree in Maritime Studies
- 5 -7 years of office experience as Operator for in-house and 3rd parties vsls
- Proficiency in the English Language (written and oral) is a firm requirement/ Computer literate
- Communication & negotiation skills
- Experience in laytime calculation
- At Sea / sailing experience – added advantage
- Bulk Carrier cargo knowledge and trade requirements is a must
- Strong ability to solve problems and generate solutions in a timely and effective manner
- Creativity – ability to think “out of the box”
